The resurfacing of an unpleasant memory created an opportunity for reflection. Feelings of guilt and remorse were stirred, and in many ways this painting is an apology to the child I once was. Today, as a grown woman, I look back on my younger self with much kinder eyes. I have accepted that along with the rest of us, she too was simply trying her best to survive.
