Submission Guidelines

ELIGIBILITY: Hartford Art School Alumni graduates of 2020 and 2021

SUBMISSIONSSubmissions will be accepted through ArtCall.org. ArtCall.org is an online application and jury management system for calls for entry. Visit https://2022alumni-exhibition.artcall.org/ and click “Register & Apply” to submit. Only submissions by the artist will be accepted. 

Entries sent via email or by mail will NOT be considered.

GUIDELINES FOR ARTWORK

  • A maximum of one work per artist may be selected.

  • All two-dimensional work must be framed and/or ready for installation with hanging hardware, wire, d-rings already installed on work and must not exceed 48" in any dimension. The work cannot exceed 75 pounds. Please have hanging hardware on the artwork for installation.

  • Three-dimensional work cannot exceed 48” in any dimension and should be ready for display as a freestanding or self-containing work. The work cannot exceed 150 lbs. The gallery has access to pedestals. 

  • All work requiring assembly or any work with a complex installation procedure must be accompanied by a detailed set of installation instructions with reference photos from previous installations. Verbal instructions will not suffice.

  • The HAS Galleries prohibits loose glitter, wet paint, sharp objects, open flames, balloons, spray (perfumes, hairsprays, etc.), dangerous chemicals, weapons, pressurized containers, plants or animals (alive or dead), hazardous materials (explosive, flammable, or perishable), infested materials (visible mold, or insects), or anything deemed harmful to the Galleries exhibitions.

  • Accepted work may not be removed during the exhibition.

 
SELECTED WORKS
Selected works must be delivered ready to hang/display. Artworks considered unsuitable for hanging/presentation will be refused. The HAS Galleries reserve the right to refuse an artwork that is misrepresented through documentation or is not the piece submitted for the exhibition.
 
LIABILITY
The HAS Galleries will not be responsible for any damage whatsoever, before, during, or after the exhibition. No works will be released for pickup without proper identification or arrangement. Any work not picked up by the dates noted above will be considered abandoned property and disposed of as the Hartford Art School sees fit. Unless specific instructions are agreed to in advance all work will be picked up by the artist on the specified collection date(s).

SALES
We encourage the sale of artwork; however, work does not have to be for sale if selected for the exhibition. HAS Galleries will not deduct a commission for any sale of work in the exhibition. HAS Galleries will not serve as a third party for sales but will instead provide artist contact information to any individuals inquiring about purchases.

SHIPPED ARTWORK
The deadline for receipt of shipped artwork is February 15. If work is not at the HAS Galleries by February 15 , we reserve the right to not include it in the exhibition. Any artwork being shipped will be returned by the HAS Galleries and all artworks should be packaged in a manner that will allow for the materials to be re-used for return shipping. Otherwise please include packing materials for return shipping.
 
INSURANCE
Insurance in the amount of the value determined by the lender, but not to exceed the fair market value, shall be placed on all loans and carried in force from the time the pieces to be lent are removed until they are returned. Unless otherwise specified, this shall be an all-risk wall to wall policy subject to standard policy exclusions carried by the University of Hartford and all premium costs shall be borne by HAS Galleries, University of Hartford.
 
Specific arrangements will be made in advance between HAS Galleries, University of Hartford and the lender when insurance coverage is provided by the lender.

PRESERVATION AND CONDITION
Any evident damage to borrowed materials at the time of receipt by HAS Galleries or while such materials are in the custody of HAS Galleries will be reported immediately to the artist. Condition reports will be completed by HAS Galleries and returned to the lender at the close of the loan period ONLY IF such reports are supplied by the artist detailing condition prior to loan.
 
SECURITY AND INCIDENTAL
HAS Galleries undertakes to maintain constant and adequate protection of borrowed materials from the hazards of fire exposure to extreme or deteriorating light, extremes of temperature and relative humidity, theft, and handling by unauthorized persons or by the public.
 
REPRODUCTIONS
Unless otherwise notified in writing, HAS Galleries assumes the right to photograph and reproduce photographs of all loaned items for educational and publicity purposes.
 
CREDIT
The University of Hartford Joseloff Gallery shall indicate the ownership of the objects on exhibition labels, mention exhibition catalogs, and press releases unless otherwise instructed.
